Signs Of A Mid-Life Crisis

"Honey, I want a new haircut and a tattoo."

Now I know I have a good wife when neither desire phased her. She gently steered me away from getting inked. My only real concern is I have no spot to put one without it eventually being obscured with body hair. Again, sorry for the mental image. I even went so far as to stay up too late watching "LA Ink". I was left wondering why so many good looking people cover themselves head to toe with such obnoxious images -- and where I was going to put mine and what should it be. Fortunately I awoke less inclined to get that Red Dragon Tattoo -- great Weezer song.

My crisis will undoubtedly unfold on the blog pages, but for now I need to re-focus on training and my coif.

ASO-holes

I keep reading VeloNews and almost every day the ASO is banning another rider or team for doping or high testosterone levels. While I do not condone doping in any form I have a simple (not really viable) consideration: Why wouldn't these guys have higher testosterone levels? To go through that much physical stress (torture) I think they'd have to have nuts the size of cantaloupes! Sorry for the imagery. My take is that most riders have extraordinary amounts of NATURAL substances in their bodies just to be able to compete.

What next -- eliminating riders with larger than normal lungs or hearts? Will they revoke Lance's 7 wins because he is a physical phenom?

Perhaps it is the ASO who should get out of cycling.

Mail Boxes

Bonus day today! Not only did we get a three hour "time out" at work due to the Florida statewide black-out, I came home to a tube and a big box in the mail. The tube contained my Zym tablets and the free poster. The big box contained my Bike Nashbar Deluxe wheel block and the climbing blocks for the RankRoom™ trainer. Now I just need the trainer back. It's out on loan to a neighbor for a few days. I will be interested to see how the blocks differ from the flat stand -- I hope it adds some effort to the lower thighs.

Did Core Class last night. I groaned to myself when Edmund the Cuban Drill Sargent was the substitute instructor. At least this time my legs weren't shaking like the afore mentioned chihuahua. I still need to use my free sessions with the trainer at the gym and focus on some weight programs in "general population" instead of just classes.

Weather is turning ugly here today so I will be home tonight, no training, just cooking. I am looking forward to Daylight-Savings so I can get some road miles back in after work.

Ride On

Back to training again. I had a good Spin Class on Saturday morning and tried to hang low the rest of the weekend. My heart rate seemed high to start but did not exceed 190 during the class.

Ran Emily down to a dog fest to meet the folks at Lab Rescue so we could get back in the cue. I was a minor celebrity -- "Hey, you're the bike guy!" Felt good to be recognized for the TeamR2R accomplishments.

Sunday was a slow start and I rode for about 18 miles I think. I cannot get the hang of my Trek Incite ACH computer. It always ends up in set mode for some reason. Heart rate and temp functions were the only ones I could read. BTW it was 91 f**k'n degrees -- in February! No relief in sight for the next 9 months.

Wrapped up biking Sunday with two hours of TOC coverage -- great finish

Farewell To A Team Member

Feather Run's Wishing On A Star "Sadie"

It was with a heavy heart we bid farewell to a dear part of our family for nearly 13 years. Sadie was an inspiration for my charity rides and an ever faithful companion. She stayed by Nifi's side all through her knee surgery recovery and always had a doggie "smile" in the form of a wagging tail. She's with her brother now, no doubt begging for cookies!

Some of you have asked how to donate to LLRoF in her name and you can do so at this donate link.

Thanks again for all the support -- we are fine and working with LLRoF to find Emily a new sister.

Lots to write about and will get back to it soon.
