Nutrition

As the month winds down it is time to wind back up towards spring/summer training efforts. Nutrition is going to play a big part. Aside from what our DOD has told us Jason at http://www.thesoiledchamois.com/ has done a ton of research and experimenting. His latest post compares a lot of electrolyte supplements -- a big deal for me in the FL heat.

Short post today.

Spin on.

OK, it truly IS a small world. So, I link over to 'Soiled Chamois' to read the nutrition review and it turns out that this guy had a nutritinal experiment go bad while riding none other than the 'Leesburg Baker's Dozen'. This was a home town race (mountain bike) for me. I didn't participate, but was very familiar with it. He even mentions my shop, Plum Grove Cyclery...all good reviews.

Well, I certainly appreciate the reviews of the Nun, Zym and Propel products, but to tell you the truth, the science just doesn't support using this stuff prior to or during serious road cycling.

If you click back to this guy's blog on his experiment-gone-wrong...Jelly Belly Sports beans + Coke + Perpetuem (Hammer)...you will see it doesn't turn out well.

All this being said, he is absolutely right that you need to find something that is compatible for your gut and that you actually do not mind the taste. After all, if you don't like the taste, no matter how good it might be, you just won't drink as much as you should.

Hey thanks. Glad you found the info useful.
I hope to actually try some of this stuff as the winter rolls on. The info is just to compare what is in what right now.

BB is right. The Perpetuem/Sports Bean combo was a disaster. UG. Every mfg. claims to have the next greates sports drink. I've had a ton of success with Hammer stuff, but I've also had as much (or lack of success in my case) with Coke and Gartor Ade.

Oddly while on my lunch brake today I looked at Airborne (the cold prevent tabs) asside from the EXtra billion mg of Vit. C they're much the same as the other stuff.

Good luck. Thanks for reading.
